Rooted in motherhood

Hi, I’m Hannah the founder of KARREK

Caring for precious samples has been at the heart of what I do for years.

After studying geology at university, I went on to work in geological laboratories, specialising in rock and mineralogy sample preparation. I’ve worked with all kinds of samples — from delicate, water-sensitive specimens to tiny, one-of-a-kind pieces that could never be replaced. Working across both private and university settings taught me just how much care, patience and respect goes into looking after something so important.

But making and creating has always been just as valuable to me. It’s something that gives me purpose, and I knew I wanted to find a way to bring that part of myself back into my work.

Like many mums, returning to work after maternity leave didn’t feel quite right. Somewhere along the way I’d fallen out of love with rock preparation, and I found myself longing for something more creative — something that felt like mine.

So I handed in my notice with just a month to create something that could support my family. That’s where KARREK began — although back then, it was called Motherhood + Memories.

I brought with me years of knowledge in sample preparation, storage and resin work, and began applying that experience to my silver work. It’s a rather unusual combination of skills, but one that fits naturally with what I create today.

This wasn’t something I picked up on a whim. Long before the first piece of jewellery was made, there were years of study, laboratory work, learning and developing processes behind it. Every piece I make is shaped by that experience — alongside the care and thought that goes into creating something that will become part of your family story.

Over time, the little business grew, and so did I. In September 2026, Motherhood + Memories became KARREK — a name and a brand that feels much more like me, rooted in Cornwall, family, memory and the beauty of the things we choose to keep.

A little more personal. A little more considered. And made with the same care I’ve always given to the precious things entrusted to me.
