Frequently asked questions
-
Yes, absolutely. We can work with milk that has been frozen as well as freshly expressed milk.
Whether it’s been tucked away in the freezer for a little while or has been there for years, your milk can still become part of a KARREK keepsake.
-
5ml is perfect. We’ll send a test tube in your keepsake kit, so there’s no need to measure anything out yourself.
If you don’t have 5ml, please don’t worry. Get in touch or simply send us what you have and we’ll do our very best to create something beautiful with it.
For other inclusions, a large lock of hair is usually plenty. If you’re sending cord, around a teaspoon is enough.
-
Any remaining preserved milk is carefully stored for up to one year after your piece has been completed.
This means you can choose to have additional pieces made in the future without needing to send more milk.
Each 5ml tube can be used to create up to three pieces, depending on the design and amount required.
-
Your milkstone is precious and needs a little care to keep it looking its best.
Excessive exposure to UV light can cause the milkstone to yellow over time, so where possible, remove your jewellery before using sunbeds and avoid storing it in direct sunlight.
Water can also affect the milkstone, so we recommend removing your jewellery before showering, swimming, bathing or washing up.
With a little care, your keepsake can be enjoyed for years to come.
-
Every KARREK piece is handmade to order, and creating your milkstone involves several stages, including slow drying and curing.
These stages can’t be rushed. Allowing each part of the process the time it needs helps us achieve the best possible finish and reduces the risk of imperfections.
Our usual turnaround time begins once your completed milk kit has arrived back with us.
If you have a particular date you’re working towards, please get in touch before ordering. We’ll always do our best to help where we can.
-
Because your jewellery is made especially for you using your own milk, we’re unable to accept cancellations or returns once your order has passed the cancellation period.
You can cancel your order within 2 days of placing it. If your milk kit has already been sent, the cost of the kit will be deducted from your refund, unless you choose to order an alternative item instead.
If you’re unhappy with your finished piece for any reason, please get in touch. We genuinely care about every piece we make and will always do our best to help.
